Athex Composite Share Price Index

The Athex Composite or Athex Composite Share Price Index is the most important Greek stock index. The abbreviation Athex stands for Athens Stock Exchange. The Athex Composite tracks the performance of the 60 largest and most actively traded Greek companies listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. It thus reflects the market segment of Greek blue-chip stocks and is the leading index for the Greek stock market.

The Athex Composite Share Price Index is a price index that lists the 60 largest and most actively traded corporations on the Athens Stock Exchange (Athex). To be included in the index, the company must be financially viable, have high liquidity, and be traded on the Athens Stock Exchange. The index level is determined solely on the basis of stock prices and is adjusted only for income from subscription rights and special payments.

The companies are weighted according to the market capitalization adjusted for free float; there is no maximum value for the share of individual companies. Capital measures such as stock splits do not have a (distorting) influence on the index. A review of the index composition is carried out twice a year (April and October). The index calculation is updated every 30 seconds during Athex trading hours from 10:30 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. local time (9:30 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. CET). Another index of the Athens Stock Exchange is the FTSE/Athex Large Cap, which lists the 25 largest and most actively traded companies in the country.
