The STOXX Europe 600 or STOXX 600 is a share index of the 600 largest European companies. It is issued by STOXX Limited, a Swiss subsidiary of Deutsche Börse AG.

 

The STOXX Europe 600 was introduced in 1998. Among all European indices, the STOXX Europe 600 has developed into one of the reference indices in Europe. It is not limited to the euro area. Countries making up the index are Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

 

The composition of the index is reviewed every three months. The selection criterion is the market capitalization based on the free float with a weighting cap of 10 percent. The calculation is updated every second during STOXX Ltd. trading hours from 9:00 to 17:30 CET. The index is available in several currencies (AUD, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, JPY, USD) and income variants (price index, performance index net and gross). The most common are the EUR variants, price index ISIN EU0009658202, net performance index ISIN EU0009658210. It is approved for use by financial institutions to serve as an underlying for a wide range of investment products such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and structured products worldwide.
