SUSS MICROOPTICS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED AS THE LEADING MANUFACTURER OF HIGH-QUALITY MICRO-OPTICS AND MICRO-OPTICAL SYSTEMS FROM START-UP.
The production of micro-optics by means of semiconductor technology was developed in the 1990s in state-subsidized research projects in Germany, Switzerland and the United States for industrial use. In 1999, Süss MicroTec Lithography (SMTL) and three micro-optics experts from the universities of Neuchâtel (Switzerland) and Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) joined forces to found SUSS MicroOptics. The joint venture was originally intended to develop only micro-optics for mask aligners from SUSS MicroTec. Today, the small start-up has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality micro-optics with over 200 customers.
In 2012, the Swiss company moved to its current building with a state-of-the-art clean room. Here, SUSS MicroOpti cs manufactures wafer-level custom monolithic micro-optics in silicon and quartz glass. High technologies in the semiconductor industry such as sub-micron microstructuring, coating, etching and imprinting, wafer-level packaging (WLP), wafer dicing and fully automatic inspection and sorting systems are used here. An international team of engineers and scientists develops innovative solutions together with the customers. The refractive and diffractive micro-optics of SUSS MicroOpti cs are today key elements for many medical devices, for measuring instruments, they are found in fiber optic networks, in research satellites, in cars and many other products. The rapid growth of the photonics market requires tireless improvement of technology, development of new markets and development of new applications.
