With more than 47 million customer lines as of December 31, 2017, Telefonica Deutschland Group is one of the three leading integrated network operators in Germany. In mobile communications, we are meeting the growing demand for mobile services as a result of the digitization of more and more areas of life. As of December 31, 2017, we are a leader in the mobile communications market with a total of 43.2 million mobile connections. More than 80% of our mobile customers have a mobile phone contract with us directly. We belong to Telefonica, S.A. Group, one of the largest telecommunications companies worldwide.
Our marketing and sales approach follows a consistent and focused multi-brand strategy. With our core brand 02 we offer private and business customers a wide range of high-quality mobile and fixed network products. Major international corporations are covered by our Telefonica brand.
With our secondary and partner brands as well as our wholesale channels, we are able to reach other large customer groups, which we do not address via the 02 brand. Our second brands include Blau, AY YILDIZ and Ortel Mobile. We also offer other mobile brands through collaborative activities and strategic partnerships. These include, for example, ALDI TALK in cooperation with MEDIONmobile and TCHIBO mobil. Our multi-brand approach gives us the ability to target the full range of customers with a bespoke product offering, sales and marketing to increase our potential revenue.
Mobile services are our main source of revenue In 2017, mobile services accounted for the largest revenue stream for Telefönica Deutschland Group (72% of total volume), at EUR 5,287 million.
As the market leader for mobile services in Germany, we operate a state-of-the-art network. We offer a high-quality network experience, especially in urban centers. Our customers benefit from the combined strength of 02 and E-Plus networks and can make even better use of mobile data applications. The combined UMTS network infrastructure reaches around 89% of the German population.
In order to improve the network experience beyond the use of mobile data via UMTS, the Telef6nica Deutschland Group has also consistently continued to expand its LTE network. At the end of December 2017, the company achieved country-wide LTE coverage of over 80%.
In addition, we are vigorously pursuing the consolidation of our 4G networks, which should be completed by the end of 2018 at the latest.
As far as our spectrum portfolio is concerned, we are excellently positioned. The Telefónica Deutschland Group has access to a total spectrum of 315.5 MHz and has a balance between frequencies that offer coverage (low frequencies) on the one hand and capacity (high frequencies) on the other hand. Compared to our competitors, we are in an excellent position to drive future network developments.
