Description of the company

The development of today's Zumtobel Group goes back to "Elektrogeräte und Kunstharzpresswerk W. Zumtobel KG", founded in 1950 and headquartered in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg (Austria). Over the following decades, the Zumtobel family - after founder Dr. Ing. Walter Zumtobel led the two sons Jürg and Fritz Zumtobel the company - to expand the business, especially in the German-speaking countries through organic growth and smaller acquisitions continuously.

The Zumtobel Group is a leading international supplier of innovative lighting solutions and lighting components. The listed group has 13 production sites on four continents as well as sales offices and partners in around 90 countries. As of the reporting date April 30, 2017, the Group employed 6,562 people and generated sales of € 1,303.9 million. The Zumtobel start-up family continues to hold approximately 35.5 percent of the Group's share capital, thus acting as a stable core shareholder. Headquarters is Dornbirn, Vorarlberg (Austria).

The primary goal of the Zumtobel Group is to provide its customers with unique added value while creating a light experience. The focus is on improving people's quality of life through light. With its many years of experience, the bundled knowledge of its employees worldwide and its extensive network of leading technology partners, lighting planners, architects and artists, the Zumtobel Group sees itself as a pioneer and initiator of the international lighting industry.

The Zumtobel Group consists of two operating segments, which are also responsible for managing the Group: the Lighting Segment and the Components Segment. Both segments have their own global sales and production organization. The individual brands are organized as business units.

The five brands acdc, Thorn, Zumtobel, Zumtobel Group Services (ZGS) and Tridonic are organized as business units. In a sixth business unit "Special Purpose Products (SPP)", the responsibility lies, for example, for externally manufactured products. The portfolio of the Reiss brand as a specialist for products with a higher degree of protection, as well as retail goods and private label products of our wholesale partners, is also organized in the SPP division. In the year under review, the portfolio was supplemented by the THORNeco product brand, which is characterized by a very good price-performance ratio and is sold exclusively through the wholesale trade. Each business unit's goal is to strategically develop its product portfolio, sharpen its brand profile and tailor its customer needs. All new products will be approved by a cross-divisional Steering Committee to avoid overlapping positioning and optimize the overall portfolio.
